NC Driver’s Education Course

The driver’s education program for students attending a school in Pamlico County is provided by funding from county commissioners and coordinated through Pamlico County Schools. Students who are 14 1/2 and older are eligible to apply to take the North Carolina Driver’s Education course. The course consists of 30 classroom instructional hours and 6 hours of Behind-the-Wheel training with a driving instructor. Students must be in good academic standing, making progress toward high school graduation, and have no discipline issues.

When a class is available, the county coordinator notifies the Point-of-Contact (POC) at each school and the POC then notifies the students that a class is scheduled. Students are responsible for registering themselves for a class. However, registration does not necessarily mean acceptance into a class. Once the registration period is over, the coordinator contacts each school’s POC and informs which students have been accepted into the class. The coordinator and POC then notify the students who are accepted.

Sherry Reeves is the POC for Arapahoe Charter School.

Students who are at least 14 years 6 months old, or will be by Monday, August 22, 2022 and interested in taking the North Carolina Driver Education 30-hour classroom instruction class must complete this Google Form by Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 8AM to be considered.

The classes will be held virtually August 22 – September 2  (Monday – Friday) from 6PM-9PM. Students will need reliable internet access along with an email address they use regularly.  Students planning to take the class must be passing at least three of their four semester courses according to the most recent reporting of grades and have good attendance.  Students without a clean disciplinary record will have their disciplinary record reviewed by the administration for inclusion in the class. If you are currently playing a sport or have other activities going on, I would suggest waiting until the next course offering as this would conflict with your practices/games/events.

Students will receive an email notifying them of their acceptance Friday, August 19th by 5PM.

All questions should be directed to Joshua Gaskill via email joshuagaskill@pamlicoschools.org
